Digital Music

I believe that the sampling rate of digital music is high enough that most people cannot hear the difference between digital and analog.

Theoretically, the human ear's sampling rate is far smaller than the sampling rate on CDs. However, this does not necessarily mean that people cannot hear the difference between digital and audio for a couple of reasons:

1. Analog does seem warmer. The digital cliffs can align with the wave that the ear is picking up and thus be detected.

2. Analog does have distortion as it is turned up. This distortion might add to the perceived "warm" qualities.

DSMax Parameter

My lab works with soil samples. No, not fecal samples, but soil, as in from the earth.

Calibration parameters are very exciting. Really. I am so excited to go to work in the morning to discuss the DSMAX parameter.

It's important to understand non-linear baseflow. At a high value for the DSMAX parameter the baseflow will be higher at lower water content in lowest soil layer.

Other considerations include hydraulic conductivity, soil moisture, available infiltration, soil depth, and snow albedo (and sometimes libido).

I was born with soil samples, and in my adult life, I still wallow in them. Boy, I need a vacation.
